Bass Pro Shops award and late-season buck

I just found out recently that I won the Bass Pro Shops “Pass It On Award,” which is, according to the press release, “given annually to an active Pennsylvania Outdoor Writers Association member for the best published newspaper or magazine article, television or radio program, commercial video, or photo or artwork that most effectively promotes passing on love and appreciation for the outdoors.” The winning story was “Take a Kid Wild Trout Fishing,” which appeared in the annual Fishing Insert in The Herald on April 11th, 2007. This is a cool award, and I was happy to get it.
Even better, I managed to get my buck again this year, but not until the last Thursday of the season. My brother Billy and friends Todd, Mark, Jason, and I traveled up to camp on Wednesday, December 5th, and hunted Thursday through Saturday. The buck was a 5-point, legal in Warren County’s 2-F Management Unit, taken from a mountaintop at 8:30 a.m. in the deep snow on SGL 86. It was my fifth buck in the past six years, which is pretty lucky, considering how the Game Commission has reduced the deer herd.
Good luck out there. And have a great week outdoors.
